Minuteman UPS
Uninterruptible Power Supply

Which type of UPS backup power supply do you need?

Stand-By UPS

Applications: Small to large PCs, Phone Key Systems, Workstations and Security Systems.

(Sometimes called "off-line") With this type of power supply, power comes directly from the A/C outlet until the voltage sags or the power fails. After the power sags or fails, a battery powered inverter almost immediately turns on to continue to supply you with power. Batteries are charged, as necessary, when direct A/C power is available. Even while power is coming directly from the A/C outlet, the UPS provides protection from voltage spikes and surges. Standby units are the low cost solution in the UPS family.

Standy-By UPSs provide surge and spike protection as well as battery backup when utility power fails. Voltage regulation is handled using internal batteries.
The MINUTEMAN MN Series is a stand-by UPS system.

Line-Interactive UPS

Applications: Small to large PCs, Key and PBX Systems, Servers, Phone Systems, Networking Equipment, Rackmount Servers and Workstations.

Just like the standby units, line-interactive UPSs provide protection from spikes and surges, as well as supplying auxiliary power if a voltage sag or a blackout occurs. Unlike the standby units, line-interactive UPSs provide automatic voltage boost when the power dips, without accessing the batteries. This feature provides continuous lined conditioning, promotes longer battery life, and eliminates electronic "noise" that can cause minor application errors and loss of data.

Line-Interactive UPS systems provide full protection from surges and sags without going to batteries thereby increasing battery life for blackout conditions. The unit interacts with the utility line to regulate small changes in voltage. Minor voltage fluctuations are raised or lowered by the AVR function of the UPS.
MINUTEMAN MBK-E, PRO-E, SmartSine, Enterprise, and XRT are all line-interactive.

Sinewave UPS with Limited Runtime/Sinewave UPS with Extended Runtime

Applications: Workstations, Servers, Internetworking, Telecom Equipment, Phone Systems, Security Systems and any device that has internal motors such as large printers or factory equipment.

This type of system produces output power virtually identical to that of utility power. It is ideal for protecting sensitive types of electronic equipment or motors that require a true sinewave to operate properly. MINUTEMAN SmartSine models provide a true sinewave output with a limited amount of battery runtime. MINUTEMAN Enterprise and XRT models provide a true sinewave output and offer extended runtime using external battery packs.
MINUTEMAN SmartSine, Enterprise, and XRT are all line interactive and sinewave UPS products.

True On-line/Extended Runtime UPS

Applications: Workstations, PBX Systems, Network Servers, Internetworking, Telecom Equipment, Phone Systems, Security Systems and Other Critical Devices.

On-line UPSs provide the highest quality of power protection by using a double-conversion technique. The UPS takes the incoming A/C power and recreates it by converting the voltage to D/C, then conditioning the power to eliminate noise, sags, or surges, and, finally, converting it back to A/C before it exists the UPS. Since the power runs continuously through the inverter, there is no transfer or switching time to battery mode in the event of a blackout.
The MINUTEMAN MCP-E and MCP Series models are true on-line UPS products that feature extended runtime options.
